- Release Notes ------------------------------------------------------------- -
"Very impressive three track demo by this Belgian three-piece. I had the
opportunity to see this band play it's first show, no longer than a year ago.
Their sound was well-received from the start on. These three tracks are
lengthy and epic as fuck. Feedback is the first thing you hear when listening
to this disc, then a bang with guitars building up to a great wave of Red
Sparrowes/Explosions in the Sky type of post rock/hardcore. I can't believe
this is their first output. Really solid! The guitar play is not as complex
as in a Red Sparrowes song, but the intricate riffs create waves of melodies
that flow into eachother in a very harmonic and natural way. Right after 3
minutes the desperate vocals kick in with lyrics in French. The song reaches
its peak near the end and the shouted/screamed vocals take care of some
chilling vibe I usually miss in lots of bands of this type. "mariner A" is
the second song and a bit the other way around. It starts off harder and the
calm parts come in later. Pretty. Not the feeling I had with the first song,
but there are parts I really enjoy. It's mainly the details I approve of so
much here. Details are not enough of course, but I don't care at this moment
and wait for the last song. It is called "mercator as gravedigger" and this
has been my favourite song of theirs every time I see them play. Recorded
it's not any different. Certainly the first and this last song are crucial
stuff for mix tapes.
It's the youthfull enthousiasm of a young band looking up to their heroes and
favourite bands that makes this demo so oustanding today, but it's going to
be the technical aspect they need to further develop if they want to reach
all the potential of their triangle tomorrow. Their potential in my eyes? I
think they can become one of the best Belgian bands. But not just yet.
However, if the number of shows they've been playing so far is an indicator
for the quality of their future output, then this band is up there with those
few bands in this genre to keep an eye on. It's the kind of post-rock/hc that
suits the ear just right. Awesome demo."
